sounds, made and found.
ambient recordings
All four ambient options use recordings released under CC0 1.0. Bowls and chimes are acoustic recordings; the two pads are recorded electronic music.
- Warm horizon and open air: Long Ambient Pad by indigo.cloud. Two excerpts with different tonal filtering.
- Singing bowls: Gong Bell (Singing Bowl, edited) by qubodup, from a recording by Monkay. A Tibetan singing bowl played with a soft mallet.
- Wind chimes: Wind chimes 1 by giddster.
We use Freesound’s high-quality MP3 previews, edit excerpts, soften the tone where needed, balance levels and convert them to stereo PCM for local playback. Loops overlap by three seconds. CC0 permits commercial reuse without attribution; these credits help you find the originals. The recordings are included in your ambient WAV exports.
nature recordings
These are real field recordings shared by their creators on Freesound. The licence for each is listed below. All permit commercial use; the brook requires attribution when you share a mix containing it.
- Rain_01.wav — Q.K. · CC0 1.0
- WAVES — leosalom · CC0 1.0
- windinleaves.wav — klangfabrik · CC0 1.0
- WIND AND LEAVES — SamuelGremaud · CC0 1.0
- Babbling Brook — johnaudiotech · CC BY 4.0
- Thunderstorm with heavy rain2.wav — Audeption · CC0 1.0
- Forest_Birds (loop) 02.wav — VKProduktion · CC0 1.0. Woodland birdsong, softened and level balanced with a three-second loop overlap.
sharing a brook mix
Include this credit in your video description, track notes or wherever you share it:
“Babbling Brook” by johnaudiotech, https://freesound.org/people/johnaudiotech/sounds/346622/ — CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. Edited, level adjusted and looped in Sonalune.
The credit is also embedded in your exported WAV. Some platforms remove file metadata, so include the written credit when publishing.
We use the high-quality MP3 previews, reduce low-frequency rumble, adjust loudness and convert them to stereo PCM WAV for reliable playback. The loops crossfade. Gentle storm blends a softened version of Thunderstorm with heavy rain2.wav by Audeption with a continuous bed of Rain_01.wav by Q.K. Both sources are CC0. Thunderstorm is a separate recording of heavier rain, thunder and some hail. Both storm loops use a longer equal-power overlap. The brook may include faint birds.
With thanks to the recordists for sharing their sounds.
The singing bowl is a real brass bowl struck with a soft mallet. We soften the initial transient, retain its ringing decay, fade the last three seconds and leave a quiet gap between strikes. The 90-second walkthrough recorded before this change uses “Singing Bowl singing” by steffcaffrey (CC0).
nature in motion
The silent videos in the soundscape panel include real nature footage from Free Nature Stock and FOCA Stock. Both publish these free clips under Creative Commons Zero (CC0 1.0). See the Free Nature Stock licence and FOCA licence.
- Raindrops Falling on Window by Jeffrey Betts / FOCA Stock — shown with soft rain.
- Rugged Ocean Coast and Waves — shown with shoreline waves and the default scene.
- Falling Autumn Maple Leaves and Swaying Pine Trees — shown with wind in the trees.
- Moving Green Leaves by Jeffrey Betts / FOCA Stock — shown with rustling leaves.
- Leaves Dancing Before a Waterfall — shown with babbling brook — a view of flowing cascades.
- Rolling Mist Clouds — shown with gentle storm — low clouds over the landscape.
- Electric storm over the ocean — Mixkit Stock Video Free License. Shown with thunderstorm; slowed to half speed with reduced contrast and saturation.
Woodland birdsong is accompanied by Bird singing in a tree from Mixkit, used under the Mixkit Stock Video Free License. This clip is not CC0. Its audio is removed; the birdsong is a separate field recording.
With thanks to Jeffrey Betts / FOCA Stock and Free Nature Stock for sharing these clips. CC0 does not require attribution; we include these credits so you can discover the originals.
For Sonalune, the clips are shortened, resized, compressed and looped. Their original audio is removed. They are visual companions to separate sound recordings, not footage of the places where those sounds were recorded. Videos are hosted with Sonalune and do not use an embedded third-party player. They are not included in WAV exports.
Choose “video off” beneath the nature controls to return to the still artwork. Sonalune remembers that preference on this device. Reduced-motion settings also keep the scene still. Each still preview is a frame from its matching clip. The thunderstorm scene includes distant lightning. The video and field recording are separate, so lightning is not synchronised to the thunder.
